Years on the sax
— The guy in the hat
Joseph Tinotenda Chinouriri — known to many as Jose Sax — is a Zimbabwean saxophonist famous for a unique cross-cultural style that moves effortlessly from gospel to jazz and beyond. Born into a musical family, he began as a drummer before the saxophone claimed him in 2011.
A strict three-hour daily drill under his Italian mentor, Mr. Gian Carlo, marked the birth of a professional. Since then he has played and recorded for over a hundred artists locally and internationally, toured with the late Dr. Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, and shared stages with the late Hugh Masekela and Benjamin Dube.
Today, Dr. Jose Sax is an award-winning saxophonist and entrepreneur, capped with an Honorary Doctorate in Philosophy in Philanthropy & Social Impact. Beyond the sax, he plays piano, mbira, marimba, clarinet and drums.

Collaborations & Shared Stages
— Simple Impact
Simple Impact is Jose’s charity caring for widows and orphans. Every year on the 10th of December — his birthday — the Simple Impact charity show brings the community together through music. The initiative grew into a music school that runs for six months each year.
Born from the Simple Impact school, the Exclusive Brass Section brings together horn and brass players from all corners of Africa — giving the unsung heroes of music the attention they deserve. Rehearsing two to three times a week, the group grooms professional musicians for the industry locally and internationally, and hosts the annual Simple Impact Concert each mid-year.
Our global vision is to be an internationally recognised organisation, giving hope to the less fortunate and bringing the brass section out of the woods and into its rightful place: the world stage. We invite you to partner with us.
